Q: I took Femara to help me with fertility and i missed a cycle of it and took it out of order will i get Prego?

A: not sure what you are asking.
just make sure you do not take it after ovulation or if you are pregnant, as it has been associated with birth defects.

Q: anyone tried using femara?
I just went to a doctors appointment this morning, the doctor ordered a semen analysis, an hsg test, an ultrasound on day 10 and femara followed by the trigger shot. We went to the pharmacy to fill the prescription and they said the trigger shot was going to 95 dollars and the femara is going to be 144 dollars! I can’t even believe how expensive this is! Has anyone used femara before and gotten pregnant? I’m really concerned about spending 250 a month on prescription drugs and I just want to know how many of you have gotten results? Also have you taken femara and had it not work? Please share!!

A: I’ve used it 4x. I wouldn’t spend a dime until the SA results were back. You could be paying all that money with no real shot of getting pregnant anyway! A SA is about $100 and can save you a lot of money and wasted effort. The hsg probably wont be scheduled for a while (just wait til you get the scary bill on that!), so you might want to consider doing that before trying medicated cycles to save money. Fertility drugs are not cheap and many insurance plans do not cover them. I use femara+bravelle+ovidrel with my IUIs. Each cycle is about $700 with my insurance, which covers 70%. I have 0 complaints about using femara tho, I’ve responded well with no side effects. I’ve heard horror stories about clomid so I’m very glad my dr put me on femara.

Q: Anyone get pregnant after taking Letrozole (Femara )days 3-7 and have only one mature follicle day 14?
This is my first month of letrozole (days 3-7)…today is day 14 and I had an internal ultrasound to see if my ovaries had any mature follicles (cysts containing an egg). There is only one large follicle in my right ovary, and a bunch of small ones in my left. My uterine lining looks good…I am also going to be giving myself an injection (per doctors orders) to force the egg to release.

My question is…has anyone been in a situation similar to this and ended up pregnant?

A: YES! im now 18 weeks pg…but it did take a few months..good luck..baby dust to you!

Q: pcos and ttc?
i just got diagnosed with pcos. my question is, in order to treat this i am supposed to take femara (similar to clomid) and Avandia. i have heard that Avandia is very dangerous as all drugs have a risk of serious side effects i have done some research on it and im scared to take it. it was listed as a diffective drug. so i guess my question is do you think that just taking the femara this cycle alone to ttc would work? or would it just be pointless without the Avandia? im not normally this concerned about a medication but the more i have learned about it i don’t think it would be safe.

A: Femara has a much better chance of working in combination with insulin-sensitizing drugs, such as metformin. Avandia isn’t usually prescribed for PCOS, metformin is. Metformin has the same effect, but is safer. Taking metformin for 3 months before starting the femara with give you a much better chance of conceiving, as long as you are taking between 1500-2550 mg of metformin per day. Also, staying on metformin throughout pregnancy gives you a normal miscarriage rate of 12%, versus 46% for those who don’t take metformin during pregnancy. Good luck and baby dust*****:)

Q: bromocriptine and slightly elevated prolactin?
We have been TTC for over 2 years now. I have been experiencing spotting 4-7 days before my period each month. I started seeing a fertility specialist a couple months ago and he ordered 4 blood tests throughout the month, which showed that my FSH levels are too low and my prolactin levels are slightly elevated. The plan is to start taking bromocriptine and femara. I have been taking the bromocriptine during my current cycle but can not start taking the femara until the following cycle as my doctor does not do any ovulation inducing cycles in July or December. I am at the point where I am emotionally exhausted and tired of TTC (thinking maybe we should take another month off from trying). I am wondering if there is anyone who has taken bromocriptine (alone) for slightly elevated prolactin and been successful. My charts indicate that I am ovulating. I have not been able to find much information on whether the bromocriptine will have much impact alone (since my prolactin is not that high) or if the doctor just prescribed it to cover all bases.

A: I’m in a similar situation. My doc just prescribed bromocriptine last week. My prolactin levels were 37 one day (at 4 pm and I was very stressed b/c I was requesting to see a fertility doc) then 26 another day (at 9 a.m. after fasting). I guess most people have levels under 10, but under 25 is considered normal. It’s so hard to find information on this. I really don’t want to start taking it . I’ve heard there can be bad side effects. Have you experienced any?

My BBT charts and OPK’s say I’m ovulating too. Only thing is, I’m ovulating on day 17/18, and getting my period on day 29, so my leuteal phase might be too short.

Bromo will bring down your levels. But I’m with you, if I’m already ovulating, what’s that going to do?

Any success stories out there?

Q: HELP!!! I had a positive ovulation tes tand then the doc called and said i didnt ovulate?
On cycle day 14 i started using home ovulation test. On days 14 and 15 i got just the control line show up on the test.

On day 16, 17 i saw two pink lines that slowly got darker.I tested in boththe morning and at night to track the lines getting darker.

On day 18 i got 2 identical dark pink lines.

My husband and i were given orders on day 13 to have sex every other day in the am.

On day 21 of my cycle i went to the dr and had a progrestrone level drawn.

I received a call today cycle day 27 and wa told my progrestrone level was to low to show ovulation.

My questions is what exactly does the progestrone level show.

I thought that if you didnt ovulate you didnt release the lh hormone that was detected by the home ovulation test.

so do you think it is still possible that i could have gotten pregant this cycle even though my progrestrone level was low.

i suffer from polycystice ovary syndrome and the drug for ovulation was femara this cycle.
Thanks

A: first of all, every woman produces lh all the time, but it usually increases as you approach ovulation. HOWEVER certain medical conditions (like PCOS) can cause lh surges all the time! This means that you cant rely on the test results. I feel really bad telling you this, I was in your situation a few years ago and was furious to find this out, especially since they are so expensive!
Email me if I can help, but for now, here is the question and answer from firstresponse.com that explains that they are not always appropriate for PCOS.

EDIT: Lauren mentions tracking your temps, I have PCOS and tracking my temp didn’t work, it was all over the place, there was no pattern and this was due to pcos.

Q: Do any medical conditions or drugs affect the test?
A: Certain medical conditions may adversely affect the reliability of this test for predicting ovulation. These include pregnancy, postpartum, post-abortion, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), (…)
