Q: What are the similarities and differences between Clomid and Femara?
Is one more sucessful than the other? Or does it mainly depend on the woman?
Is there a price difference? Difference in side effects or risks?
Any info would be great thanks!
A: Clomid is supposed to be more efficient, but with more side effects, the doctor will prescribe either one depending on your case and your needs, talk to your obgyn about this, you can also ask an RE (fertility specialist) online to get their input about the differences on these two, and which one could be better for your specific case, try www.FertilityTies.com
good luck!
Q: Ladies who have used femara and gotten pregnant?
I thought that I was going to be doing an iui but I was told that they were going to put me on femara instead. How much does this cost when insurance doesn’t cover fertility meds? What is the change of it working the first time? Clomid didn’t work for me after 5 cycles and I have pcos and do not have periods on my own. Thanks for all the info.
A: I am doing my first Femara cycle this month. Even though my insurance doesn’t cover anything “infertility” it covered the Femara because it’s a breast cancer drug being used off label for infertility. So, it only cost me $30 (my co-pay), which was about the same as the Clomid.
As for the rest… my RE gave me Femara because the Clomid thinned my lining too much. I did get pregnant on Clomid, but I had a miscarriage. So, the thought was that perhaps with the Femara the eggs would be higher quality and the lining would be thicker.
Q: What would happen if someone mixed Femara with Human Growth Hormones?
I’ve heard somebody talking about it and I don’t really know what they are, but would it kill them if they tried it? Answer if you know your medicines or whatever!
A: My guess it would be a quite unusual nutritional shake of some kind. My advice is to stay with fruit smoothies, less risk of waking up as a spider or a roach.
Q: Has anyone with PCOS had success pregnancy, after taking femara, clomid or injectables after weight loss?
Im just wondering if there are any cysters on here who have taken either Femara/Letrozole,Clomid or injectables that had success after a major weight loss, metformin, diet change, and exercise? Did your doctor recommend a hysterectomy after youve had your children? Do any of you cysters have HPV?
A: I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19, had irregular periods for years, took pills for a while to try and regulate the periods, eventually quit the pills (had gained so much weight), and the periods stayed fairly regular thereafter. However, tried for over 2 years to get pregnant with no luck (and with no drugs). Made up my mind to change my eating habits and started exercising. I lost 50 pounds in about 6 months…and even better, I am now pregnant — this happened almost as soon as I dropped the weight. I was about 15 lbs away from my goal weight when I found out I was pregnant. Again, this was accomplished without any medication. I know different things work for different people, but I know what worked for me. Best of luck to you!
Q: Did your baby have any birth defects from Femara?
have just been diagnosed with PCOS and am on metformin daily and the femara for days 3-7 of my cycle.
I’ve just been told that it is supposed to be illegal for doctors to prescibe this for fertility purposes in Canada due to birth defect possibilities.
I’m so scared.
Did you use femara for infertility, and did your baby have any birth defects?
A: No, I did not use femara for infertility. After trying everything including clomid and injections, my doctor put me on metformin “just to see”. I got prego two months later!
Q: Has anyone taken FEMARA for infertility and became pregnant?
If so how and times/cycles of FEMARA did you have to do before becoming pregnant?
A: We were successsful on our 2nd round of Femara after 5 failed cycles on Clomid. I responed MUCH better to the Femara, and I had virtually no side effects on it.
Good luck!
Q: What is the latest you ovulated on Femara?
I’m on cd 25 and counting….
It has worked for me before, and I ovulated btwn cd13-16. But it’s been a year since I’ve been on it. I go in on Monday for an ultrasound to look at my follicles.
A: That sounds much too late unfortunately. Are you also doing ultrasound to see if any mature follicles, or femara is even working for you? It didn’t for us.
Good luck.
Q: what is the difference between clomid and femara?
I am round 3 clomid and from my blood work I have only ovulated good the 1st month…. wondering about my other options?
A: Yes Femara may be an option. I tried it for 5 months with no luck so we moved on to the Clomid. I am on my first cycle keeping my fingers crossed. Ok, to answer your question. The difference between Clomid and Femara is the way they make you ovulate.
Clomid tricks your body into ovulation as where Femara is sending extra estrogen into your reproductive system which naturally allows you to ovulate. Femara is a breast cancer medication that became an effective fertility treatment when a bunch of women who had breast cancer were taking it and a lot ended up getting pregnant.
Femara is less intese on your body and you can take it longer than you could with Clomid. Clomid is only recommended to be taken no longer then 3 months with rare cases of 6 months depending on the individuals situation.
My fertility doctor told me that in his experience he has seen the women who don’t respond to Femara usually do with Clomid and those who don’t respond to the Clomid do with the Femara. Its worth a shot
and from what I remember the Femara didn’t give any strange side effects other than a bit emotional with silly things lol. GL to you! and lots of baby dust!
Q: Has anyone taken Femara and gotten preggo?
I just finished my first round of Femara, and I am just waiting till I can take a test. Any one had any luck?
A: Not very sure.
Q: Femara instead of Clomid what cycle day did you ovulate?
hello!
I am taking femara instead of clomid and wondering what day I might ovulate.
Thank you!
A: I took clomid for 5 months and just did my first round of femara this past month. I am now 4 days late for AF. Yeah!!!!! I ovulated the exact same as you’re suppose too which is 14 days from when your next period is due. But you should do the baby dance 5 days before and leading up to a day or two after. Sperm can live for up to 5 days in there so starting early helps your chances. Go get some ovulation tests and start testing at about day 10 from your last period and keep testing til you get a positive answer and then you’ll ovulate in the next 12-24 hours after that! Good Luck!
Q: How long does it take to conceive a baby while taking Femara?
A: It is like Clomid – it might work in one cycle, 2, 3, 4 cycles or it might never work.
It is important to check to see that you are ovulating on it as it is supposed to help with ovulation. If you are ovulating, time intercourse right, have a partner with a normal sperm count . . . you have a 20 – 25% chance for success.
Good luck and loads of baby dust to you!
Q: How soon after taking Femara for fertility can you have side effects?
I just started taking them today and would like to know what to expect. Thanks!

Q: Is anyone taking Femara as an ovulation inductor?
I took this to get pregnant with my first child. We have been trying for number 2, and am going to start using it again. It is actually used to treat brest cancer in older women. Just wondering if anyone else has had success with it.
A: I haven’t personally used it but I’ve knwn a lot of women who have. I’ve heard nothing but great stories from them. Good Luck!
Q: did your baby have any birth defects from Femara?
I have just been diagnosed with PCOS and am on metformin daily and the femara for days 3-7 of my cycle.
I’ve just been told that it is supposed to be illegal for doctors to prescibe this for fertility purposes in Canada due to birth defect possibilities.
I’m so scared.
Did you use femara for infertility, and did your baby have any birth defects
A: While I’ve had no child with this medication, my doctor did use it to help stimulate my ovaries (although I didn’t end up ovulating). There was a study in 2005 that indicated higher risk of birth defects, but recently studies have combatted that statement. In fact, according to my doctor and my own review of some literature, more studies are coming out these days that it has no more of a risk of birth defects than any other fertility drug. If you want to read more, follow the link below and read page 3 (or the whole thing if you want). Also the second link is about the original study in 2005, though times have changed since then.
Please don’t be scared. If you’re still worried, discuss these risks with your doctor; but do understand that all drugs create risks in this difficult game we play to conceive with this condition. I wish you much luck!
Q: cd6, Is anyone else starting their first rounds of Clomid or Femara this week?
I just started my first round of Femara yesterday. I’m getting anxious and excited for cd11 to come so I can start fertility testing. Who else out there has recently started, just got finished, or is about to start taking their first round? Please share your thoughts, dreams, side effects, and partner reactions. Just looking for folks who are in the same place in their journey as I am.
A: Wahoo Im on Femara, Well actually I have to wait until my prometrium tablets do their job of starting my cycle, then I have to wait until cd 5 to start taking the Femara. All this waiting for certain steps, I am super excited and hope to get pregnant the first month. (hopeful). I think my husband finally took my serious on the having trouble conceiving issue, so its nice to finally have his support. I know you must be so anxious to see if you will get results. I am in the same boat my friend. Good Luck to you and lots of baby dust!!!!!! Maybe we will both be able to give our good news at Christmas time!
