Q: Does anyone have solution for my problem(Chronic nasal blockage-polypoidal mucosa) this is killing me?
Friends I am 23 years of age and for the last five years I am suffering from this chronic nasal blockage problem . when I was 19 I got frequent cold and my nose started to get blocked now and then but got relieved taking antibiotics and antihistamines. From my 20th year the nasal blockage had become a prominent problem, I had endoscopy done in my nose and the doctor diagnosed it as polypoidal mucosa and advised me an operation ie turbinectomy, but I was afraid to go for it, from then i am on intranasal steroids budesonide,I am taking nearly 400mcg of budesonide daily will it cause glaucoma,Now recently got another endoscopy done by another ent and he also diagnosed it as polypoidal mucosa and advised turbinectomy, firstly Iam afraid of this operation because I am afraid if i would landup with “empty nasal syndrome” after this operation which is a possible side effect of this operation no septal deviation, tee totaller does pollution cause this problem plastic companies around my home
A: HI THere
Here are some ideas on how to heal the issue. You also need to learn about cleansing the body of toxins by doing a colon and liver cleanse to heal for long term.
Cause of Allergies
Overall, the underlying causes of allergy and sensitivity are dietary and lifestyle factors specifically titled as imbalanced immune function, barrier function default (such as “leaky gut” syndrome), and toxic overload. Each of these are, in varying degrees, responsible for the development and continuation of allergy and sensitivity.
Herbal Medicine: There are a variety of herbs that offer relief from allergies, such as goldenseal, red sage, and goldenrod. To reduce mucus, try astringents such as yarrow and myrrh (Commiphora myrrha). These help to contract inflamed tissues and reduce secretions and discharges. To strengthen immune response use echinacea, astragalus root, goldenseal root, and Pfaffia paniculata (suma or Brazilian ginseng). These herbs can be effective and safe for treating weakened immune systems.
Cayenne pepper is a favorite herb among those treating allergy patients. The active ingredient is a strong anti-inflammatory, and it is recommend to allergy suffers, including asthma patients, as a simple and effective treatment. Sprinkling liberal amounts of the pepper on meals for a few days can provide relief.
Although herbal remedies have shown excellent results in reducing allergy/sensitivity symptoms, using herbs to treat allergies involves an individual approach. Some particularly effective anti-inflammatory herbs are stinging nettle, Ginkgo biloba, and licorice. Chinese skullcap, ephedra, and feverfew are others to consider for treating allergy symptoms. Patients whose conditions are severe should consult with a trained herbalist or naturopath.
A major symptom of allergies is gastrointestinal upset, including bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea. Demulcent herbs can alleviate these symptoms (demulcent is a term used by herbalists to describe an herb that has a protective effect on the mucous membranes by minimizing irritation). The most commonly used herbs are marshmallow, slippery elm bark, cabbage juice, okra, fenugreek, and aloe vera.
Homeopathy: Homeopathy has widespread applications for the treatment of allergies. In many situations, minute diluted doses of the substance a person is allergic to can be prepared as a homeopathic solution that triggers the body`s natural ability to heal itself.
Homeopathic remedies are best prescribed by a competent homeopath. Self-diagnosis is discouraged due to the variety of factors that must be considered before the appropriate treatment is selected. However, the following remedies can be helpful: Ferrum phos, lycopodium, and silica.
Juice Therapy: A juice fast of organic vegetable juices for 2-3 weeks can help detoxify the body, thus improving its ability to cope with allergies. Two useful juice combinations for this purpose are beet, carrot, and cucumber; and carrot and celery. For added benefit, add a small piece of ginger root to either juice combination.
THis recipe will clear the issue.
Recipe:Tomato Tea Cures
Spicy Tomato Tea: The #1 Remedy To Cure Severe Sinus Congestion
Writes Jean, “After drinking this tea hot, your sinus congestion will disappear REAL fast! All these ingredients not only work on the immediate symptoms, but also add vitamin C to fight a cold and garlic to fight infection.”
Add 1 cup tomato juice, 1 tsp chopped fresh garlic, 1/2 tsp of hot sauce, 1 tsp lemon juice, and a pinch or two of celery salt for flavor. Heat ingredients and drink hot.
6/8/2006: Jean writes us again: “Really delighted that the tomato recipe is working so well for so many people.
The reason I picked these ingredients is this: tomato and lemon juices for their high vitamin C content, hot sauce for its ability to clear out the sinuses, and garlic for its anti-bacterial qualities. In addition, all of these ingredients have many other properties that are extremely good for the body’s ability to heal itself. If you also add worcestershire sauce and celery salt, you have a bloody mary without the vodka!
The reason for heating it is obvious… the fumes from the hot sauce work their way farther into your sinuses, carrying the fumes of the anti-bacterial garlic with it. I drink this even when I’m not sick, as I love the taste.
”
11/7/2006: Jean writes: “Amended for greater effectiveness: The first 4 ingredients are well-known serious herbals for their medicinal properties… Used together they can do wonders for sinus/ear infections, colds, coughing and sore throat. I’ve even found it to kill flu germs.
2 cups tomato or V8 juice
1 tablespoon fresh garlic
As much hot sauce or cayenne pepper as you can stand
1 tablespoon lemon juice
VERY IMPORTANT: Drink it HOT and SIP … This sends the bacteria killing fumes into your sinus passages.
Note: Adding celery salt and a dash of worcestershire sauce make it taste like a bloody mary.
Three mistakes I’m seeing in the people who say it didn’t work very well…
1. Get as close to the ingredients listed as possible… When you feel better, go buy the real thing. It WILL make a difference.
2. Drink as much as you can as often as you can until you are SURE the infection is gone. This is past the time when you “feel better.”
3. Drink it HOT and SLOWLY, so you get those fumes going up into your sinuses. This mix is highly anti-bacterial and will KILL the infection.
Let me recount a story of my own from last year. My own 17 year old son didn’t believe this would help and doesn’t care much for tomato juice, so he didn’t want to give this a chance. For about 7 months, he had my ex-husband continually running him back and forth to the doctor for one antibiotic after another and a host of other medicines trying to get rid of chronic sinus/ear infections. He was miserable. It just kept coming back. He finally decided to give my tomato tea an honest test. Within a week of using it regularly and sipping it HOT, the infections were gone totally, and haven’t returned. That was about 8 months ago.
Tomato and lemon juices for their high vit C, hot sauce and garlic to clear out the sinuses and kill the obnoxious bacteria. These ingredients have many other properties extremely good for the body’s ability to heal itself. The reason for heating is obvious… the fumes work their way up into the sinuses, carrying the germ-killing fumes with it.
I drink this even when I’m not sick, as I love the taste. Really delighted that the tomato recipe is working so well for so many people.
Oh one more thing to add… Drinking this tomato tea regularly when NOT sick, will kill the germs before they can make you sick!”
Best of health to you
Q: NASAL COMFORT (TM) – Does it really work??
For years I’ve suffered from stuffy nose or nasal congestion. Today I saw an ad about a new product “Nasal Comfort.” I’m wondering if anyone has tried it…
Stuffy nose makes life almost unbearable. You can’t sleep well, and as a result you feel tired all the time. And during the day it just makes me breathless. I’ve tried budesonide, which works somewhat. So does a hot shower. But I’m curious about this new product, which claims to be “drug-free” and “non-habit-forming.” Anyone?
A: I have not tried it yet, BUT you can bet i will soon. At night I use Breathe Rights (TM) and let me tell you….i have never slept so good in my life. Even my wife will tell you they are great…i hardly snore at all any more!!
Q: NEED HELP FAST! READ ASAP! Too Much Symbicort?
I just inhaled a whole tube of Sybicort Tubuhaler. Dont ask why. My fingers are tingling and I dont have an instruction thing for it.
Symbicort Tubuhaler
Each inhalation contains 200ug budesonide
6ug eformoterol fumarate dihydrate
I took about 120 inhalations and my hands keep shaking and my fingers are tingly. Should I contact medical help?
A: Why are you taking so many inhalations? We all know its not an accident, lol You should probably goto the hospital.
Q: Swine Flu & Steroid treatment?
Has anyone with Crohn’s who is on steroid treatment been treated for swine flu with tamiflu while on Budesonide?
I have Swine Flu my partner has gone to fetch my anti-viral drugs however i’m waiting for my doctor to call me back for further assessments and they have told me not to take the drugs until the doc has rang me back?
anyone with any advice please?
A: You can take steroid medication with Tamiflu, that’s fine.
Rather than waiting for GP or NHS to pull their finger out, contact your local pharmacist and will confirm there is no drug interaction and then you can start the antivirals.
Of course there is the risk that Tamiflu can worsen symptoms of chrons if you have an upset stomach etc.
Q: I am having a bad sore throat. I need advise..?
Hi all,
I been having a terrible sore throat which now lasted till a month. Anyone of you came across such pain in the throat before? I actually recovered from my sore throat about 5 days back and it came back yesterday morning. I suspected must be the nasal spray which contains budesonide which is now causing my throat to pain. I went to 2 doctors and both gave me antibiotics and nothing worked until I took the chinese herbal tea and i got well. And now, I’m having it again.. sigh..
Do you think this is normal or should I seek the specialist? My nose is blocked that is why i used the nasal spray. unknowingly, the cause of budesonide cause me to have this sore throat and i stopped using the spray.
I need your opinions to those who had experienced such situation before.
A: Most likely it is post-nasal drip that is causing the sore throat. You indicate that your nose is blocked. You need to find out why, and try to treat it. If the Chinese herbal tea works, great!
There are also over-the-counter and prescription antihistamines and decongestants you can try. I find that a few days of Sudafed or the related generic can be helpful. Gargling with salted water and/or mouthwash also help the sore throat temporarily.
Butesonide is a steroid and has a lot of side effects. If your doctor is giving you that, you need to have a discussion about how to treat your allergies long term. Or see a specialist. It is time to resolve this problem. Find out what is causing your nose problems! You will have this nose for a long time and need to come to some sort of agreement with it…
Q: Dad dying from Cushings Syndrome. Prednisone Alternative?
My Dad, who’s in his late 60s, was given Prednisone a year or two back to help him breathe better (his throat/neck swell up). But, they kept him on it way too long, and after lots of suffering we finally stumbled upon Cushings Syndrome, and that’s what he has from being on that stuff too long.
But, they tested his glands, and his adrenal glands are shriveled up now, meaning they can’t take him off the Prednisone. Lowering his doses makes him weak and sick; his glands will no longer produce.
But the very thing keeping him alive is killing him. He’s getting sick all the time, swells up worse than ever, has panic attacks from not being able to breathe, and all this is terrible for his already weakened heart (he’s had two heart attacks in the past).
Please, is there ANYTHING that can either replace the Prednisone, or just plain replace whatever his body can’t produce anymore? We’ve taken him to 15 different doctors, waited months and months between specialists and tests, and nobody’s doing anything or saying anything conclusive and he’s now in terrible shape. Would Budesonide work in this case? Holistic treatments? Anything we can suggest to the doctors at all?
Please… and thank you any who took the time to read…
A: What your dad has developed is Addison’s disease, which is the opposite of Cushing’s syndrome. The only alternative to prednisone is cortisone acetate, which could be better or worse – the only way to know is by trying out.. With prednisone or cortisone acetate, its very challenging to get the right amount of the drug without causing side effects, but a person can very carefully and slowly (over a period of months) adjust the dosage until they begin to see problems, and then bump back up or back down to the last dosage where no problems occurred, and remain at that dosage.
Budesonide will only amplify the problems caused by prednisone – its not a good idea to take both of these drugs at the same time unless there is absolutely no other alternative. It might help to ask the docs if there is an alternative for this med.
The swelling is probably due to the lack of aldosterone, which is also produced by the adrenal glands, and it plays a major role in controlling kidney function and fluid retention. He should probably be on medication to replace aldosterone.
Q: Can those drugs cause any permanent damage to my body?
I suffer from many side effects now (weakness, liver pain, vision problems, dizzyness, headache, muscle pain, testicular pain), I’m worried about my health. It’s supposed to cure my infection, but I can’t see any positive changes after 4 days…
Ciprofloxacine ear drops called Proxacin (0.3% 3 mg/ml 5 ml, 4 drops per day), Augmentin (Amoxicillinum+Acidum clavulanicum 2g / day), Budesonide nasal spray (2 doses / day), Ketokonazole (Nizoral) pills (200mg / day)
A: The fact of the matter is any drug will cause permanent damage to your body if you’ve been using them for a while.
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and it should not be used for a prolonged period of time.
If you are having all these side-effects from the medication your taking, and you don’t see any positive changes in your health, you need to first of all, stop taking the medication, and talk to your doctor about possible alternatives.
Q: USE ALLERGY IMMUNOTHERAPY OR SOMETHING ELSE”?
MY 6 YR OLD SON HAS BEEN SICK WITH EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN SINCE MID NOVEMBER. I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHY A HEALTHY CHILD IS NOW GETTING SICK ALOT. NO LIVING CHANGES TO CAUSE IT . YES HE STARTED KINDERGARTEN BUT STAYED SICK DURING CHRISTMAS 2 WEEK BREAK. I SWITCHED HIM TO AN ASTHAMA/ ALLERGY PEDIATRICIAN WHOM IS CONVINCED HE HAS ACTIVE ALLERGY AND ASTHMA. HE SENT US TO A SPECIALIST THIS WEEK WHOM SAYS HE MUST TAKE SINGULAIR DAILY, MIX 1 VIAL OF XOPENEX AND 1 VIAL OF BUDESONIDE IN A NEBULIZER EVERY NIGHT AND NASAL SPRAY DAILY. HE IS TO START TAKING IMMUNOTHERAPY SHOTS NEXT FRIDAY EVERY WEEK. AND ON THE OTHER HAND THEIR IS AN LOCAL HERBALIST WHOM SAYS IT IS MOLD IN THE BODY. HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER HAS ALLERGIES AND A COUSIN WHOM HAS HAD ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA. I AM SCARED OF ALL THESE MEDS GOING IN HIS BODY. HE IS A VERY ACTIVE OTHERWISE HEALTHY CHILD, HE LOVES TO PLAY SPORTS. ANY THOUGHTS, OR PROFESSIONAL COMMENTS PLEASE.
A: Personally as a mother of a child with anaphylaxis, asthma and other allergy conditions and an ICU nurse, I would be more scared of the herbalist and his remedies. An asthma/allergy ped is specifically trained to treat his condition. Drugs such as singulair, and the nebs/nasal spray have been EXTENSIVELY tested in large trails to determine their effectiveness-drugs (drops/supplements whatever they like to call them) used by herbalists are NOT extensively tested (extensively used yes!) for effectiveness/side effects etc.(ask for evidence on their effectiveness-see if there are large (1000’s) numbers studied-are they backed up by similar research studies).
Just because a treatment is described an ‘natural’ doesn’t mean it is safe or the best option-especially in the case of allergies and asthma-it is something that needs to be managed by a trained professional (allergy specialist).
The other thing to be careful of is mixing treatments-what one (herbalist) can give you could counteract what the allergist is prescribing so always check with the allergist if they are ok to give.
What it sounds like from your opening statement is that your child is sick because his asthma is not controlled. Sometimes it does take a bit of manipulation before you get the right levels of medications to control the asthma.
For us (7yo boy) we have found the singulair has been great for his asthma (exercise induced) and the daily nasal sprays are vital to manage the asthma (non congested nose=good filtering capacity for allergens=less asthma-you need to have good control over the nose to have any chance of fixing the asthma).
Asthma is a very serious condition that needs to be taken seriously-you sound like you have the perfect person (asthma/allergy paed) to guide you in the right direction. I would try not to muddy the waters by getting a herbalist involved-way too risky. good luck-i hope your little boy turns the corner soon.
cheers cmf
Q: Posterior Cervical Lymphadenopathy? Really scared…?
About a year-and-a-half ago, I found a large lump on the back of my neck… about an inch in diameter. I was advised by a paramedic to see my doctor, and he immediately referred me to an otolaryngologist. I had an ultrasound done, and the report said I had a 3 x 5 x 8 mm (i think) mass IN my lymph node (it had shrunk a little by then), and that there was lymph tissue around it. I told the specialist that I have also had problems with my right hand for quite a few years. I can hardly write with it anymore; I can’t close my hand tight enough even to make a fist. So the specialist suggested physiotherapy… That didn’t work for my hand or the lymph node.
Over the past year, the lump shrinks to the point where it is barely detectable, then it grows again… it takes approx 4 months to complete each “cycle”.
I am 26, I also have an auto-immune disease, and I have been on multiple immunosuppressants (remicade, imuran, and budesonide) simultaneously.
Any thoughts/ideas of what this could be?
Thanks in advance =)
A: All the adenopathies are not caused by cancer.
The fact that you have been treated with immunosuppressant make harder the landscap
I dislike a few the trouble with your arm let check the brain and eyes for field and a Lancaster and bottom of retina
Which one auto immune disease? lupus? may be an another solution for the treatement.
In fact adenopathy alone without hitching and no fiever.
the best would be to take off it and biopsie to know him inside if no risq. You would be secure and avoid Hodgkin
This question is for a specialist teatcher internal diseases not the regular doctor. The fact that it grow bother me a few but we have sometime not the same sight in Europa according the case about chimio therapy and now priority is given to the body if it defends itself.
Q: Severe food intolerance?
i am at a loss. my girl papillon whom i have had for 3 years has SEVERE food intolerance. she has been on and off (mostly on) steroids the entire time trying to get her bowel disease under control. she has been on venison, duck, rabbit, bison, commercial vegetarian, black beans and sweet potatoes, and now emu and millet.
every time we have tried to ween her off the steroids, she vomits. when she is on them she is fine. she is currently seeing an internist and a holistic vet. we recently changed her diet to emu and millet because she stopped eating the black beans and sweet potatoes. it was a sudden diet change because she had stoped eating. she has been on the new diet for 5 days and started having diarrhea 2 days ago. her internist thinks the diarrhea is because her bowel disease is still not controlled but in the past when she has immediatley reacted to a food she vomited. her current therapies include budesonide 1mg, prilosec 5mg, an herbal concoction
that is from her holistic vet, and now metronidazole (added today by internist).
has anyone else delt with severe food intolerance? our goal is to get her off the steroids for good.
the holistic vet we are using is very known and is an excellent doctor. she was tolerating the black beans and sweet potatoes just fine but she stopped eating it. as in did not want it anymore, would only pick at it…
yes, she has had extensive blood work run, has been tested for cushings, has had a tli, pli, b12, folate, has been endoscoped, had intestinal biopsies done, xrays, ultrasounds, fecals…you name it she has had it.
i started taking her to the holistic vet only a little over a month ago to see if we were missing anything in my dogs treatment.
also, we have tried raw diets with her. no luck.
A: hi Bob,
First off let me tell you I had to let my lovely girl go to doggie
heaven 27.10.07 after the tumour had grown to much..
anyway aside from the food intolerance have you some how (don’t know how) checked her emotional side I feel that she frets alot which also maybe upsetting her system, she feels like she is a soul that needs a lot of attention to feel happy.
Don’t know if this helps, I feel that she was a rescued dog??
Q: Could my son have eosinophilic esophagitis?
Ok, I posted a question a week ago regarding my 13 year old son and whether or not he had crohns. He has been in the hospital for 3 weeks. The symptoms started out as nausea, vomiting, and right sided abdominal pain. Over the 3 week period it has increased in severity. He has not been able to eat or even hold down water. It has become hard for him to swallow and he has severe reflux. Numerous studies were done…x-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans( which showed swollen lymph nodes) and stool studies. All normal, but symptoms still there. They initially diagnosed him with mesenteric adenitis and said it would go away in two weeks. Two weeks came and went and symptoms still here. He has lost 15 pounds and still cannot eat. They went as far as to say he is faking and that there is nothing wrong with him. Even asked me if he could have an eating disorder. They convinced me to put him on prozac and risperdal for nausea (I never knew it to be used that way but they said they use it on chemo patients). After not seeing results I finally pushed for an endoscopy/colonoscopy because I couldn’t believe what they were accusing my son of or believe for that matter that he could be doing this on purpose. The biopsy of his colon came back with an abnormal amount of eosinophils. Oddly enough the biopsies were negative in the esophagus and stomach. They have started him on Budesonide and put in a feeding tube usinng Elecare formula. He is tolerating the food, but when he has to take his pills by mouth, he gags and always throws up the water. My concern here is that they are treating the wrong thing. Why is he diagnosed with Eosinophilic Colitis, but has all the symptoms of Eosinophilic Esophagitis??? My son has not had any lower GI Symptoms. No diarrhea, and all stool specimens came back with no evidence of blood. I have read that misdiagnosis is common. Is it possible that he also has eosinophils in his esophagus causing all of these issues and the biopsies they took just didn’t show them??
Can I please make it clear that my son is not faking!! He has been diagnosed with Eosinophilic colitis which is a very rare disorder. My question is regarding whether or not they could have missed the eosinophils in the esophagus as well since all of his symptoms are consistent with eosinophilic esophagitis??
A: There is a strong possibility of him having worms in the Liver and Lungs. Esonophils can go high and cause peculiar kinds of pneumonia symptoms by worms. The lymph glands could swell up. Take the followng medicines after stool test or without stool tests as the medicines have no side effects or ill effects:
1. Cina 30 three times a day for three days. Use Cina 1M one dose in fifteen days thereafter untill everything is clear.
2. Sulphur 30 three times a day for three days. Repeat one dose every week.
One dose is three to five globules. Do not touch medicines with hand use the cap of the vials to administer medicine directly on tongue.
Oesophigitis has gastric reasons behind it. Here the case may be the worms crawling up the throat. Krohn’s can also be cured with Homeopathic medicines. Consult a homeopathic doctor before administerng any medicines.
Use the following link for other symptoms of Cina.
www.homeoint.org/books/boericmm/index.htm
For throwing up use one single dose of Arsenicum Album 30, or Phosphorus 30 or Ipec as per symptoms.
Details : The only question to be asked is why these rare conditions. What is in this last century which was not there in large quantities in the earlier centuries that gives rise to these rare conditons in multiple progression? It is iatrogenic.
The NSAIDs, Vaccines etc. are primarily responsible with other antibiotic combination which no one knows how they act in the body. Following are important iatrogenic sources. clozapine, rifampicin , naproxen, most of them are ether derivatives or derivatives from psychotropic substances. It can well be side effects. The medicines which can help in these conditions in homeopathy are Thuja 30 ( many doses for removing the side effects of vaccines), natrum mur 30 and 1M to improve the autoimmune status. Calcaria Carb to correct the thyroid and calcium imbalances which are invariable effected. Nux Vomica and Pulsatilla to correct the ill effects of various medicines, taken by the individual as well as transmitted by the parentage due to their consumption in a whole life time. Once these minor imblances are found out and corrected, the following medicines can be used as per symptoms for colitis: Aloe Soc 30, Argentum Nitricum 6C, 30C, Allium Sativum (use garlic as much as possible in raw or pearls). Cadmium Sulph, Cantharis (for infections and inflammations)Colchicum autum, Colocynthis (cutting pain in abdomen which will come later), Ficus indicus (haemorrages which will follow later), Kalium bich, Mercurious corrosive(as the name indicates for corrosiveness), Mercurious (for presence of mercury the metal in any form ) Selenium met. , Sepia(Enterocolitis specific), Sulphur, Therebenthiniae (specific for Enterocolitis)
Q: Is my daughter still contagious? She had Bronchitis, then Bronchiolitis?
Three weeks ago my daughter was said to have Bronchitis, Croup, and fever blisters. They treated her with antibiotics and a steriod (strange combo I know). She was well the next week.
Last week she got sick again, but after a few days, seemed better. She went to stay with her dad, then came back worse than before. Another trip to the doctor we are informed she has Bronchiolitis and an ear infection. That visit leaves us with Cefdinir for her ears, and Budesonide for her lungs (for a nebulizer) we also got Albuetrol (spelling?) in case she got bad and were told to continue with Mucinex (we had also used Vicks too).
Now Monday her fever stopped coming up, she hasn’t need any Tylenol or Motrin. Is she still contagious? Her doctor’s office is closed and I need to know before I take her to visit my older grandparents. One of whom has COPD.
Her fever stopped coming up Monday and she hasn’t needed any Acetominophen to bring it down.*
She did not have a culture done. She has not been coughing bad enough even to need the Albuterol. She hasn’t had a fever for three days and has been taking meds and breathing treatments. She’s been great. My aunt and cousin aren’t bringing their kids to Christmas, that is the problem. They think she’s still contagious.
A: I’ve been told that if someone has been on antibiotics for at least three days they are no longer contagious. Also sinus and ear infections are not contagious but throat infections are. Did she have a throat culture? My oldest daughter also had bronchiolitis and got albuterol and didn’t get better until one doctor in the group gave her a steroid shot. She continued staying sick every month of what I thought was one cold after the other. The doctor said it was her tonsils and she was sick all the time until they came out when she was 7. You’re lucky that you got her in for the steroid as it saves kids. Some are not so lucky and I lost a nephew who had it when one doctor misdiagnosed him and just told the mom to give him only water to drink. As far as a fever if a fever is gone for 24 hours and has stayed down without Tylenol or any other fever reducers she’s probably o.k. But the pedicatrician told me that our son could still be contagious if he had a throat infection. He was diagnosed with a sinus infection and given antibiotics. They would have called if the culture came back positive so fortunately it was only a sinus infection. Because of your family history I’d honestly keep her away because if he were to get exposed if there’s a chance she’s contagious then that would be so much worse for that family member. Better to keep the sick away from people with COPD if you’re not sure that she’s contagious. Sure you want to be with family but I’m so angry that a kid coughed in my face three weeks ago and I’m still sick. My kids usually bring home things but not this time. Your family will appreciate not being exposed to illnesses.
Edited:
Can she wear a mask? If so then I’d have her wear it to prevent any possible germs from spreading.
Well she does still have a cough right? I didn’t think I was still contagious after finishing my antibiotic but my family got sick from me a few days ago and I have been sick for a couple weeks now even though I’ve covered my mouth. Everything I touch that I coughed onto has to be disinfected with the Clorox hard sanitizer and there are still two in the family who don’t have the illness as bad as me. If it were me I would play it safe by getting her a mask and prevent her from coughing, hugging, kissing, and touching other people.
If she can wear a mask then I would’n't feel as exposed. I know people that work in the dentist offices wear masks to prevent us from getting whatever cold or illness they have.
As for the Albuterol I’m just telling you my experience and I know you said your daughter got worse. A pediatrician in the group told us that when our daughter has a cough she should use albuterol after she was diagnosed with asthma because if she didn’t use the Albuterol to keep anything out of her chest, it could get in her lungs. She had a cough and cold and I was concerned about her lungs. One doctor told me that she didn’t have any wheezing and she didn’t need the albuterol so she didn’t need it at the time. Two days later she had a respiratory infection. It had gone into her lungs. She was o.k. before that while on the albuterol but when I stopped it she got worse. I avoid taking my kids to this doctor in the group. In the past whenever there was a delay with her getting albuterol or if she missed several doses in a day it always went into her lungs.
When your daughter went to stay with her dad was he or anyone she was close to sick? Was she on albutuerol at the time? Just wondering because this happens to my daughter. I wouldn’t think she’s still contagious but I’d play it safe and have her wear a mask. Also I wouldn’t have her shake hands with anyone. A person with COPD can get very sick requiring hospitalization. My father-in-law had COPD and anytime someone got a cold in the family he had to go to the doctor no matter what to help him prevent from his breathing from getting worse. Also you may want to have some antibacterial spray or wipes. I’ve ben able to prevent illnesses from spreading in the family by wiping down phones, light switches, keyboards, door nobs, toilet handles, and sink handles. It’s not so much being out in the cold that causes more people at this time to get sick but it’s the confinement of everyone in one room and the germs spreading. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Thanx Rihanna, they’ve actually said that Tamiflu may cause me to have an upset stomach. started on the Tamiflu now so hopefully i will start to feel better soon.

Q: What is considered a high dose of steroid?
i have been prescribed Budesonide 200 micrograms, one inhalation twice a day, for 7 days
What sort of dose is this considered?
Am i likey to encounter any problems or ill effects?
Thanks for any info.
A: There is no strict definition of what a ‘high dose’ is for steroid medications, but I can assure you that Budesonide 200mcg 2x/day is actually quite a conservative dose, on the low end.
Medical professionals and patients generally worry about steroid side effects when using oral ingested medication. Inhaled steroids (eg. for asthma) have a long track record of being safe, particular at initial or low doses. The most common significant side effect from Budesonide inhaled would be throat irritation & oral thrush, but this occurs only with prolonged use, and I would not expect any problems with 1 week.
